Green eyed monster

a to z challenge 2016

Is it ok to be jealous?

Funny thing about jealousy – it goes unnoticed – similar to the delinquent cousin you don’t like to draw attention to – and inevitably when said cousin shows up at the family BBQ,  she can’t be ignored.

Can jealousy ever be a good thing?

I look around at other bloggers, see their successes and honestly, I’m jealous. These other bloggers are  moving forward with  and I feel stagnated.  It’s obvious they have a large readership and I want that for myself; their Twitter and Facebook followers exceed mine by the hundreds. I see them publish sponsored posts and know they are monetizing their blogs.

The answer to the above question is yes, jealousy, can be good.

Jealousy can push us to make a change. When we feel as though we are going in a  direction that is unsatisfying, and we look around and see others where we would like to be,  jealousy can be the inspiration that fuels our determination.

So I joined the A to Z Challenge for the second year in a row. I remember (most of the time) to tweet links to my posts which drives traffic and comments (!) (how bloggers LOVE comments).  I stay at it, creating drafts that someday will be another published post, and another. I stay in touch with bloggers and groups that are encouraging and where their focus is to help you realize your goals.

The drive to change provides inspiration, determination and pushes jealousy out the side door; it is replaced with the satisfaction that I’m working towards the goals I see others have achieved.  Sometime in the future, I will be able to provide support to someone that feels as I do now – and assure them it’s ok to be jealous.

Jealousy is a dangerous thing I think, it can motivate but it can also destroy. I think we need to remember that everyone is at a different journey, and we can’t see behind the scenes – who knows what they’re going through?

Hello! Comments are the best, aren’t they? It’s nice when someone takes the time to send an encouraging word.

You’re right though; jealousy can definitely push us to do better and work harder.

  3. I think jealousy is often the most motivating reason for me to post things! Even when I have a particularly good day on the blog, there is someone who has a post I like more, or has more traffic, or any number of things I am jealous and want for myself.
